Pt. Vijayshankar Mehta’s column: All the happiness of the world lies in the farewell of ego.

Vivekananda ji and Swami Ramtirtha, who were praised all over the world, were not given importance in their own country. And both of them used to say that even if you want a certificate of appreciation, take it from God, what will the world give. But man’s biggest weakness is ego, and praise is the food of ego. An egoistic person feels that he should be praised everywhere and he should be scrutinized. Ego is also an invisible cause of sorrow. Try a small experiment. Sometimes write ‘I’ on a small piece of ice with a marker pen and look at it for a while. It will melt, be washed away. There is also an experiment of breath. Close your eyes, look from within at the Ajna Chakra located between the eyebrows and see the word ‘I’. Then take a deep breath and look at the word ‘I’ on the Ajna Chakra from within and when you exhale, destroy the same ‘I’. See what went wrong. Do this action three-four times. You will feel that the ‘I’ is falling. As the ‘I’ goes, it will also take the ego. And all the happiness of the world is included in the farewell of ego.
