Column by Pt. Vijayshankar Mehta: Now is the time for reverse mentoring in our families

Within no time we created divisions in our families. The idea that everyone is equal in the family was blown away in the storm of new thinking. Excessive self-interest invited discord and disintegration in the family. The hassles of big and small are nourishing the ego and ego is the biggest enemy of families. Now is the time for reverse mentoring in families. The elders should learn from the younger ones and the younger ones should respect the elders – this transaction will have to be worked upon in great depth. In the political scene, citizens and voters seem to be separate, although leaders do not believe this. The benefits that are given to voters are not given to the citizens. For example, in homes, the daughter-in-law is like a citizen and the daughter is like a voter. Whether you are small or big in the family, whenever you take any decision or action, do not just look at the family members – look at the entire family and its future. In the world of work, profile value has become higher than human value, but at least it is not the case in homes.
