Pt. Vijayshankar Mehta’s column: Celebrate holidays but keep these four things in mind

Children’s school holidays have started or are about to start. Most of the parents are preparing to go on a trip with their children. Rishis and sages also used to earn leave. They had their own way of celebrating holidays, because there was Gurukul system. When you decide to take a vacation, first set a time limit. Who will be your allies? Be careful if you change areas. If you have left your old place, then be careful about how long you have to maintain contact with that place. And most importantly, return safely. There is a line in Ramcharitmanas on how to make good use of holidays. Ram ji, Sita ji and Lakshman were celebrating holidays in solitude in the forest. So the line is – Ehi bidhi gaye kachuk din beeti, kahat birag gyan gun neeti. A few days passed in which they discussed renunciation, knowledge, virtues and ethics with each other. Celebrate holidays, but if these four things happen during it, then you will go with mental health, celebrate with physical health and return with both.
